A look behind the scenes with our colleagues

At JAM-IT we believe learning and doing go hand in hand. Our IT traineeship gives starters the chance to develop into a Mendix Business Engineer in a short space of time: through a strong combination of training, guidance and hands-on experience. A few months ago Sonam, Parminder and Mishela started their traineeship. They are now working full tilt at clients across different sectors. We asked them how they have experienced their first months at JAM-IT.

A flying start at JAM-IT

Sonam looks back on her first months with enthusiasm:

"So far I really enjoy it at JAM-IT. It is a good team to work in and as a junior I learn something new every day. In a relatively short time I have already worked on three different projects."

Parminder settled in quickly too:

"It is a really nice place to be. I have friendly, helpful colleagues, so the atmosphere is always friendly. On top of that the work is challenging, a perfect balance between instructive and achievable. After every feature I develop, I feel myself getting better, and that is a great feeling."

Mishela emphasises above all the room to learn and grow:

"From day one I felt welcome and I had a clear picture of the steps I would be going through. What I like is that there is plenty of room to ask questions and really grow. Thanks to my background in Artificial Intelligence I have already developed an analytical way of thinking, and at JAM-IT I am now learning to apply that in practice."

Learning in practice

The three trainees now work on a wide range of client projects: from business applications to logistics platforms and financial solutions. In every project they get to know new sides of Mendix.

Sonam says:

"Every project is different and brings new challenges, which means I keep developing my knowledge and skills in Mendix. Working together within the teams and with Product Owners in particular has taught me a lot about communication and structure within a project."

Mishela sees the variety as an important part of the learning too:

"I work on different projects where I develop new functionality and improve existing processes. What I mainly learn is how to translate technical solutions into something that really adds value for the user."

Parminder describes how he experiences his role at his client:

"I work on an application that helps make projects clearer with KPIs and dashboards. Because I was allowed to build a new part of it, I could learn a lot straight away. The feedback from my colleagues is very valuable: it helps me keep getting better at Mendix Studio Pro and at working together."

Growing as a professional

At JAM-IT it is not only about the technology, but about personal development as well. The trainees take courses in communication, collaboration and presentation skills, and take part in knowledge-sharing sessions with colleagues.

Sonam appreciates those moments:

"During our knowledge-sharing sessions I learn more about each other's projects, obstacles and approaches. That does not just help with solving problems, it helps my personal growth within the team too."

Mishela feels the same:

"The combination of technical knowledge and soft skills makes the traineeship really complete. Thanks to the training I am learning not only to program better, but also to communicate more strongly and more confidently."

Parminder sums the feeling up well:

"Because I have started something new again, I had briefly forgotten how cool it is to learn a lot at once and apply it straight away. I have that feeling back now, and it is hugely motivating."

Facing the future with confidence

Sonam, Parminder and Mishela now work independently on client projects, with the support of their colleagues at JAM-IT. They keep growing, learning and adding to their Mendix certifications.

"I like that at JAM-IT I get the room to grow, both technically and personally," says Sonam. "There are always colleagues ready to think along or help if I get stuck on something."

Their stories show how varied the path of an IT trainee can be, and how valuable it is to learn in an environment where growth is central.
