Meet the team: JAM-IT's co-owner Martijn

In this blog series we introduce our colleagues. Today, the technical brain behind JAM-IT: Martijn.

In his role as co-owner, manager and developer, Martijn makes sure that JAM-IT can consistently deliver quality to clients such as Netvice, Erfrechtplan and Loyalis, and that it keeps innovating too. Below you can read how his adventure at JAM-IT began and what he works on day to day.

Developer through and through

Martijn knew early on that he wanted to do something with computers. So he studied Computer Engineering and then went to work as a Java programmer. Within a few years he moved up to Lead Developer, a role in which he was mainly responsible for leading and steering a team of developers and for advising on and helping to shape new technical solutions at a strategic level. Alongside that, he also worked on the further development of applications. At his last employer he got to know Armando, with whom he went on to start JAM-IT.

"Working with my team on a project is the best thing there is"

Martijn is a calm person who likes to get to the bottom of things before making choices. He would rather not take the beaten track, and instead tries to come up with new ways of delivering even better quality. In doing so, he finds it important to work from principle; every choice has to contribute consistently to a core value of the team.

Outside work Martijn prefers not to sit behind a screen; then he is busy with his cars and with woodworking and metalworking. He has already made various pieces of furniture and tools that way.

Role in the team

Within the team, Martijn is a true architect. He leads the developers, thinks about the bigger picture and sets out the plans for the future. Together with Armando he is responsible for running the business, and on top of that Martijn likes to put his time into innovation. Thanks to his experience as a Java developer, he can come up with and build additional products, so that JAM-IT can offer extra service alongside the building blocks of Mendix.

"Looking beyond today matters. Where will your team be in a month? And in six months? And in a year? That is where the added value lies."

For Martijn, quality is the most important thing in his work, and he safeguards it by automating as many steps as possible. One example is the product JamOps, a tool that checks the quality of the code before it can be promoted.

The future

At the time of writing, JAM-IT has grown into a team of seven, and it will not stop there. Martijn is proud of the growth they are going through, by learning from mistakes and always going a step further.

So far JAM-IT has kept growing, and Martijn would like to keep it that way. In the years ahead he wants to help even more companies with fine, high-quality applications, both from Mendix and from JAM-IT itself.
