Meet the team: Mendix Business Engineer Joshua

In this blog series we introduce our people to you. Today, one of our heroes: Joshua.

In his role as a Mendix developer, Joshua spends a lot of his time building new features and fixing bugs. Below you can read how he ended up at JAM-IT and what he works on day to day.

Business administration and IT find a match in JAM-IT

Joshua took a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, followed by a Master's in Business Information Management, in the IT direction. He found his elective in Java programming very interesting, but a little too technical. He was looking for something in which he could still work with IT, but with less programming. That is how his interest in Mendix arose, the low-code platform JAM-IT works with.

When Joshua came across the vacancy for a traineeship at JAM-IT, in his own home town of Ridderkerk no less, the choice was quickly made. And he has now been part of our team for two years. Outside work, Joshua is keen on sport, going out and meeting up with friends.

From trainee to developer

During his traineeship Joshua got to know Mendix thoroughly before starting work as a developer. In the small JAM-IT team he got plenty of guidance and every chance to develop. In just four months he completed the training courses and gained the Mendix Advanced certificate.

Role in the team

Joshua has worked on various projects, such as SIMbestuur and calculation modules for Netvice. He now focuses on two large projects: for half the week he is part of the Cloud Unit Team at Mendix, and for the other half he is in the Digital Quality Team of the municipality of Rotterdam.

At Mendix he mainly works on building new features and automating processes. At the municipality of Rotterdam he sets up new apps, fixes bugs and makes sure everything is up to date.

The future

In the time ahead, Joshua wants to keep developing himself as a developer. That is why he is going to go deeper into Java and JavaScript. Eventually he also sees himself putting his passion for business administration to use again in a management role.
