What is JamAuditLog?

The development of JamAuditLog grew organically within JAM-IT. Various clients came with requests such as:

• Having an audit trail for compliance reasons
• Who is responsible for which change?

This module offers more than just the basics of logging actions by a user within an application. The main purpose of JamAuditLog is to be compliant with audit logging. By switching audit logging on, you can track all activity and investigate who did what, and when, in the system. The module also helps you solve and analyse bugs.

Put this module in your project and JamAuditLog works straight away, with no further steps required. That means you do not have to change the domain model within Mendix either, which saves valuable process time. What is more, JamAuditLog is a full 5x faster than the standard Mendix audit trail.

What makes JamAuditLog stand out?

The core of JamAuditLog records the changes. Those changes are sent to a target. You can configure and add any target. The architecture is set up so that extra targets can be added. Decide for yourself where your logging is written and to which system. Do you go for a logging system such as the Mendix log, Splunk or Papertrail? It is also possible to have the logging of several applications centrally in one system.

All the functionality at a glance

• Audit logging:

  • Create, Change, Delete and AutoCommitDelete
  • Of all entities, including:
    • Object GUID
    • Attributes that indicate identity (for example Name, ID)
    • Changed attributes
    • Path to source
    • User name
    • The user's IP address needs no (runtime) configuration

• The ability to resolve AutoCommit errors in a targeted way

• By default all entities are included, unless they are excluded (using regular expressions)

• Logging is written to one or more targets, such as the Mendix log, Splunk and Papertrail.

Extension

JamAuditLog has a feature that lets you write the audit log to a database. Combined with our standard Mendix pages, it is now even easier to store the audit log outside Mendix and view and search it in your Mendix application. This functionality makes it easy to follow and analyse your application's audit trail, giving you better insight into who did what, and when, in your system.

With this addition, JamAuditLog offers even more flexibility and room for customisation. Decide for yourself where you want to store the logging and choose from various options, such as the Mendix log, Splunk, Papertrail or a database. And if you use several applications, you can store the logging centrally in one system.
